Mephisto -Gorgeous- Clog

You know, I find it so funny that a chunk of wood roughly carved into a shoe shape ever made it into high fashion, but I’ve got to say, I am never going to turn down a chance to wear a comfortable pair of clogs. True, they’re not really that good-looking; in fact, they look exactly like what they are – a dome of calfskin attached to a padded sole. Maybe today’s lazy society just appreciates a comfortable shoe that they can slip on and off with ease, but whatever the reason, clogs became hot two years ago and they haven’t dropped out of the fashion world yet.

The Mephisto “Gorgeous” clog is just one of many stylish offerings. It’s got a topstitched center seam in a contrasting thread color on a soft dark brown calfskin vamp. This designer is absolutely concerned with the wearer’s comfort, because not only does this shoe sport a padded collar, it also has a padded insole. Mephisto, I love you. Thanks for caring so much about my feet.

The only problem with clogs is that they’re strictly casual. I once tried to wear black clogs out to a restaurant and got severely reprimanded by my fashionista friends. This was, of course, before I knew better. Nowadays, I would pair these beautiful brown (they also come in black) clogs with jeans or cords, even a casual skirt, if the occasion called for it. You can find these Mephisto clogs at Nordstrom.com for $164.95.

You can’t have clogs without bringing up Crocs – and whether you hate them or not, Crocs are hot. Now, the makers of Crocs are coming out with a winter clog, which includes a soft fur lining to keep your tootsies warm in colder weather. The Crocs Mammoth sports the original, famously ugly holey design with a matching removable sock liner and a higher heel and false venting to protect your feet from winter weather. If that’s your thing, get a pair at Zappos.com for $45.95.

Okay, back to proper clogs – the Ecco Women’s Casual Clog with Ring has a smoky-grey leather upper and a one-and-three-quarter-inch heel for extra style. It also comes with a braided leather strip and ring detail that really sets off the shoe. My favorite part is the sexy rivet detail along the edge of the sole and the way that they elegantly bend to fit your foot from all angles. I found them for $109.95 at Endless.com.
