Marc Jacobs - Spring 2007 Collection Highlights
New York Fashion Week just passed, and I managed to gain access to a few of the runway shows. The one that impressed me the most was the Spring 2007 collection from Marc Jacobs. I have been a huge fan of Marc’s work since he launched his first signature line back in 1986. He received the Parsons School of Design’s highest honor in 1985, and launched his namesake label shortly thereafter. This, in turn, led to a stint at Louis Vuitton where he designed their very first ready-to-wear collection.
Marc Jacobs has certainly come a long way since then, baby! His 2001 collection, Marc by Marc Jacobs, was a smashing success that (finally) made his work available to the masses. It was a relatively affordable collection that was both retro-inspired and edgy; it was everything a girl like me has ever hoped for. I have been mad in love with him ever since! His Spring 2007 collection is just as impressive as anything he has previously designed.
Thankfully, he has also introduced a new collection of accessories, ranging from colorful, mod-inspired handbags to oh-so-hot ankle boots. By now, you should know that I am completely and utterly obsessed with designer fashion accessories. There were so many new and exciting handbags in this collection, I could barely contain myself.
The first item to catch my eye was a textured bronze, metallic clutch. It had a strong, yet feminine chain link strap and beautiful cinching on the ends. It was slightly oversized (as far as a standard clutch goes), but it would be perfect for either daytime or evening use. It is one of those handbags that could easily work with almost any outfit. My other favorite handbag in this collection was equally impressive. It was another hot little metallic number in a blueish, steely grey. It was slightly larger than I generally prefer, but at least it would have enough room for all of my makeup and personal affects. I absolutely adored the decorative jewel-like fixtures on the side of this bag. These handbags will undoubtedly be hot sellers this coming year.
I almost forgot about the handbags completely when I started fixating on the footwear. I sooo love Marc Jacobs shoes! There was a stunning pair of silvery grey stilts with a 4 inch heel, and a gorgeous band of faux jewels that wrapped around the front. They were nothing short of incredible! Another pair that I can’t stop thinking about had a 3 inch heel that was constructed from a solid piece of crystal, with a handful of smaller crystals across the toes. These shoes were the jewel of the show, in my humble opinion. All in all, this show was a feast for the senses. I can hardly wait to find these amazing Marc Jacobs fashions in stores.
